Oppositional Defiant Disorder / Behavioral Disturbance
What is Oppositional Defiant Disorder / Behavioral Disturbance?
Try as we might as parents, sometimes children just don’t behave the way we want or need them to behave. Bargaining, pleading and, yes, even bribing are not above us, as we attempt to help our children grow into the responsible adults they deserve to be. These techniques, effective as they can be at times frequently come with unintended consequences and can make children even more difficult to work with (and certainly more expensive!)
Here at Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Southern New Jersey, we understand both the needs of parents and of children and can provide a customized program to help you and your child(ren) through these difficult times of oppositionality. We can help restore order (and maybe even peace!)
Treatment begins with a consultation and will involve the whole family, because the reality is the family is in this fix all together and it will take the whole family to help make things right.
Symptoms Include:
- Frequent temper tantrums
- Frequent arguments with adults
- Refusing to follow rules
- Easily bothered or annoyed by others
